War in Iraq

Military

I am getting so tired of hearing about how or why we shouldn't be in the war in Iraq. WMD, this, President Bush that, blah, blah, blah.

I think what it really comes down to is this: Is the world a better, safer place with Saddam Hussein gone?

Here's a guy that killed thousands of innocent people out of cold blood, not to mention all the teranical acts that he ordered or that he allowed while in power.

I really think that just to remove Saddam from power, it has all been, and will be worth it.  I just can't understand why Most of the democrats and now even some of the republicans would want to pull funding for such a worthy cause.  Our military is over there trying to provide the Iraqi people with an opportunity to become a free country, yet our friends in congress are trying to chop them off at the knee's.  NICE!  With Senators and Congressmen like that, who needs enemies.

So, what do you think? Is the world a better, safer place with Saddam Hussein gone?

What do I think...

I think Saddam's execution brought InstantSpot.com a TON of traffic.

I think it wasn't a terrible idea to go over there, but it might be a good idea to "bring 'em home" soon.

I think if the commenters from http://dubya.instantspot.com/blog catch wind of your blog you might get some interesting comments :)

Oh, also... I think I should tell you "Welcome To InstantSpot!!!"

I think to minimize the deaths of thousands of US troops by saying that the world is a nicer place with Saddam gone is NOT a very nice thing to do. Also - if killing Saddam was our goal, we have attained it, so why not bring our troops home?

Should the US become the World Police? Should we send out troops 'round the globe removing all evil dictators - or those WE deem as such - and force OUR form of government in place afterwards - all at a cost of trillions of dollars and untold numbers of human lives? And if we do, then what will differentiate us from the evil dictators we removed?

And, finally, what about Osama bin Laden? Any word on him lately? Surely you remember - he's the guy that masterminded the WTC bombing and wreaked all of the other havoc on us on 9/11. Has anybody been looking for him lately? Does anybody even CARE anymore?

To think you can go into a country, topple the dictator that murdered hundreds thousands of people by desicrating his army, then leave the country to fend for itself is the right thing to do, is irresponsible, recless, and NOT nice.

No, the US should not be the world police. Not at all, but if a country is killing thousands of there own people, harboring or aiding terrorists, then something has to be done. Not war, first sanctions, then whatever it takes, but steps must be taken to try to ensure safety and freedom.

What about Osama Bin Laden? You may need to turn on the news from time to time to see that we are still fighting in Afganistan and that we think he's in Pakistan. You know, our military isn't required to tell us there exact plans nor are they required to share there intelligence with you or I.

I believe the media has found what sells papers and advertising and is concentrating on IRAQ in an effort to undermine the current administraton. I know you won't agree with me on that, but explain to me why my friends serving in Iraq are amazed that the good things they are doing, (building schools, houses....) aren't getting reported over here?

"Q But don't you believe that the threat that bin Laden posed won't truly be eliminated until he is found either dead or alive?

THE PRESIDENT: Well, as I say, we haven't heard much from him. And I wouldn't necessarily say he's at the center of any command structure. And, again, I don't know where he is. I -- I'll repeat what I said. *** I truly am not that concerned about him. *** I know he is on the run. I was concerned about him, when he had taken over a country. I was concerned about the fact that he was basically running Afghanistan and calling the shots for the Taliban."

http://www.whitehouse.gov/news/releases/2002/03/20...

There you have it - right from the source - Bush is just not that concerned about bin Laden. In fact, the people I know who are currently in service tell me that no one is even looking for him.

The current administration is doing a fine job of undermining themselves - they don't need any help from anyone else. One reason I'm sure that your friends who are serving in Iraq don't understand the full scope if what is being reported here is that they apparently aren't afforded the luxury of any news channel except the Pentagon Channel. Not a very unbiased source ...

That is interesting, but, that press release is 5 years old. Again, read the news from TODAY or at least the last WEEK. Bin Laden's not the issue here anyway. You know, the Internet is available all over the world, not just in your cozy little town. The troops do have access to it on occasion, so they see the news just like you and me on occasion.

"Bin Laden's not the issue here anyway."

WHY??? Why isn't bin Laden the issue here? Isn't that why we originally ATTACKED Iraq?

You really think the troops have access to the internet? It seems kind of unlikely that they would get that when they don't get necesseties like body armor, medical treatment, timely pay - and believe it or not - a guarantee to be FED. I wish I could provide links to back up what I'm saying but what I've been told comes from people who have returned from Iraq or parents of people who are still there.

The bottom line is that the Iraqi people don't WANT us there any more. They aren't interested in being occupied by US forces, and have no desire to adopt the western way of life. All we are doing is killing innocent people for no reason - which makes us no better than Saddam.

So you really think we are on the Same level as Saddam? That is disgusting. Are we killing innocent people because they aren't the same religion as us? No, that is not the original reason we attacked Iraq. Remember him not allowing arms inspectors in, remember him killing thousands of this own people, remember him repeatedly taking pot shots at our airplanes? Do you remember him gassing his own people with Weapons of mass destruction? You know, email does travel over the Internet? Did I say they all had it? No, Did is say some of them occasionally have it? yes. I am a veteran, I have been to Iraq, I know email and Internet is available at some of the bases. And that was back in 1997, so I'm sure they still have it. http://www.signonsandiego.com/news/world/iraq/bord... What is so bad about staying there long enough for their government to become stable and there military becoming strong enough to defend themselves? I don't want them to stay for years, and I really wish we would put more pressure on them to get themselves trained to support themselves, but if we leave early, ever little clan will fight to become the next dictator.
